Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information Best Consumer Report collects when you visit, why we collect it, who else can see it, and what you can do about it.
Best Consumer Report ("we," "us," "this site") is operated by [YOUR LEGAL ENTITY NAME], [FULL MAILING ADDRESS]. Questions go to [email protected].
Information you give us directly
If you email us or use our contact page, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write. We keep that correspondence so we can answer you and maintain a record of corrections and complaints.
Reading this site requires nothing from you. There is no account to create.
Section 02Information collected automatically
Our servers and service providers automatically record technical information when you visit. That typically includes:
- IP address and general location derived from it, usually city or region level
- Browser type, operating system, and device type
- The page or ad you arrived from, and the pages you view here
- Date, time, and duration of your visit
- Clicks on links, including affiliate links
We use this to understand which articles get read, which ads bring readers who find the content useful, and whether the site works correctly on your device.
Section 03Cookies and tracking technologies
We and our service providers use cookies, pixels, and similar technologies. The categories in use are:
- Essential. Needed for the site to load and display correctly.
- Analytics. Aggregate measurement of traffic and page performance.
- Advertising and attribution. Cookies and tracking parameters that let us and our advertising partners measure which ad or referral led to a visit, a purchase, or a form submission. This includes affiliate network tracking and click-tracking software.
Most browsers let you refuse or delete cookies in their settings. Blocking advertising cookies won't stop you reading anything here, though some links may not attribute correctly. Browsers also offer a "Do Not Track" signal; because there is still no consistent industry standard for honoring it, we do not currently respond to it.
Section 04Affiliate links and outbound purchases
Some links to products are affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, we may receive a commission from the merchant at no additional cost to you. We disclose this on every page where affiliate links appear.
When you click an affiliate link, you leave this site. The merchant collects and controls whatever information you give them, including name, shipping address, and payment details. We never see or store your payment information. Their privacy policy governs what happens next, and it's worth reading before you buy.
What we receive is aggregated or anonymized commission reporting — that a sale occurred and which link produced it.
Section 05Quote requests and referral forms
Some pages may let you request a quote or ask a provider to contact you. These forms are clearly identified, and the form itself will name the categories of company that may contact you before you submit anything.
When you submit one of these forms, the information you enter — which may include your name, email address, phone number, postal address or ZIP code, and details relevant to the request — is transmitted to the provider or providers described on that form so they can respond to you.
This is the point to understand clearly: by submitting such a form you are asking to be contacted, and you should expect calls, texts, or emails from those providers, including at the phone number you supply. Consent details, including whether contact may be automated and how to revoke consent, appear on the form itself at the moment you submit it. Message and data rates may apply.
We may be compensated for delivering your request, whether or not you go on to purchase anything. Once your information reaches a provider, that provider's own privacy policy governs how they use and retain it, and their retention is not something we control. To stop contact from a specific provider, you'll generally need to tell that provider directly; we'll help you identify who received a request if you ask.
You can decline any form and still read everything on this site.
Section 06Who else receives information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own independent marketing except as described in Section 05, where you have asked to be contacted. Otherwise, information is shared only:
- With service providers who operate the site for us — hosting, page building, analytics, and advertising attribution — and only as needed to perform those functions.
- With advertising platforms, as conversion and performance measurement, when we run advertising.
- When legally required, in response to a lawful request or to protect our legal rights or the safety of others.
- In a business transfer, if this site or its assets are sold or merged, in which case this policy continues to apply until the successor publishes its own.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you, request its correction or deletion, opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, or opt out of targeted advertising. Residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, and a number of other states have these rights under state privacy law; UK and EEA residents have comparable rights under the UK GDPR and GDPR.
To exercise any of them, email [email protected] with your request and enough detail for us to locate your records. We'll respond within the timeframe the applicable law requires, generally 45 days. We won't treat you differently for asking.
We do not sell personal information as that term is defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act, and have not done so in the preceding twelve months.
Section 08Data retention
Correspondence is kept as long as needed to handle your question and maintain a record of it, then deleted. Automatically collected analytics and attribution data is retained on our service providers' standard schedules, typically fourteen to twenty-six months, and is generally aggregated after that.
Section 09Security
This site is served over an encrypted connection, and we use reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect the limited information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure and we can't guarantee absolute security. Please don't send sensitive personal, financial, or medical information by email.
Section 10Children's privacy
This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Section 11Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site or the law changes. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date above, and material changes will be noted on this page. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised policy.
