About this site
Who publishes it, how we evaluate things, and exactly how we're paid.
Section 01What we're for
Best Consumer Report covers the gap between what something is advertised to do and what its own documentation says it does.
That gap is usually not a lie. It's a labeling convention, an industry-standard omission, or a spec written in language that assumes you already know the field. A collagen tub says "collagen peptides" and never names a type. A policy summary lists what's covered and puts the exclusions four pages later. An estimate quotes a total without saying whether haul-away is in it.
None of that is hidden, exactly. It's just not explained. So we explain it, and we show you where to look so you can do it yourself next time.
Section 02Who publishes this
the bio with no image at all — that's a perfectly normal choice.
Never a stock photo. A borrowed face undoes this entire page.
I'm an independent publisher, not a doctor, a licensed insurance agent, or a contractor. What I do is read documentation carefully and explain what it says in plain language — and be explicit about the limits of that, which is most of what Section 03 is about.
This site is a one-person operation. When it says "we," that's an editorial convention, not a newsroom. I write and edit everything published here, and my name is on it because I think you're entitled to know who is telling you this and what they stand to gain.

Section 03What we are not
On health topics specifically: statements about dietary supplements on this site have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration, and products discussed are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Supplements interact with medications and are not right for everyone. Talk to your physician or pharmacist before starting one.
On insurance and home services: coverage terms, eligibility, pricing, and licensing requirements vary by state and by individual circumstance. We can explain what a term means. We cannot tell you what you personally should buy, and we are not licensed to.
Section 04How we're paid
This is the section most sites bury. Here it is up front, because if you don't know how a publisher earns, you can't calibrate what it tells you.
Affiliate commissions. Some links to products are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, the merchant may pay us a commission. This costs you nothing extra and does not change your price.
Quote requests and referrals. On pages where you can request a quote or ask a provider to contact you, we may be compensated when you submit that request — whether or not you go on to buy anything. Any page with a form on it will say so on the form itself, along with who may contact you.
Advertising. Some pages on this site are advertorials: advertising content written in article form. Those pages are labeled as advertising at the top, above the headline, before you read anything else.
What that means in practice:
- We have a financial interest in things we link to, and you should read our coverage with that in mind. That's precisely why we publish the checks instead of just the verdict — so you can second-guess us with the same information we used.
- Compensation does not change the facts we report. Specs, sourcing, terms, and pricing come from published documentation, and we will not state something we believe to be untrue about a product or provider regardless of what it pays.
- We do not cover every option in a category. Something's absence from a comparison is not a judgment about it.
- Any comparison reflects the specific criteria stated on that page, not an overall ranking of the companies involved.
How we evaluate
Every piece here follows the same procedure:
- Source from the seller's own documentation. Labels, spec sheets, policy summaries, and published terms — not advertising copy, and not other review sites.
- Normalize the price. Cost per serving, per month, per square foot. Sticker prices aren't comparable across different sizes, terms, or scopes.
- Name what's missing. An absent ingredient or an exclusion tells you more about fit than another paragraph about features.
- Publish checks the reader can repeat. Every figure we cite should be findable at the source in under a minute.
- Date the figures. Prices and terms move. What we publish is accurate as of writing and we say so.
Corrections
We will get things wrong. Formulations get reformulated, prices change, and policies get rewritten without announcement.
When we're told about an error, we fix it and note what changed and when, on the page itself. We don't quietly edit and pretend the original never happened. If you spot something, email the editorial desk — corrections go to the front of the queue.
Section 07Reaching us
Corrections and editorial questions, privacy requests, and partnership inquiries all route through the contact page, which lists the right address for each and our postal address.
